Charles E. Harris, Jr. received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry from Vanderbilt in 1960 and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt in 1964. His special teaching and research interest is practical ethics. He has published a number of papers in this and other areas of philosophy, as well as a book, Applying Moral Theories. For the past five years he has been involved in teaching and research in engineering ethics. He has been involved in an initiative to introduce questions on ethics and professionalism in the model examinations of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Survey. With M.R. Rabins in mechanical engineering, he teaches a class in engineering ethics that now has 300 students.
